The team sprung into action immediately after the earthquake, starting with relief work. They sent food, medical stocks and sanitation supplies to 3 Village Development Committees (VDCs) of Sindhupalchowk -Bhotenamlang, Thangpaldhap and Thangpalkot. Their amazing work gained attention from an international community of well-wishers including the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, Keanu Reeves, Margot Robbie and Joel Edgerton. Owing to the generous support of these organizations and individuals, the team has, over the past year:

  • Provided 2200 children in 8 schools a nutritious afternoon meal every day last school year. The Feeding Program has been very successful in incentivizing parents to send their children to school regularly.
  • Constructed 2 permanent schools and presently constructing a third.
  • Constructed 23 durable semi-permanent classrooms for children to study in a safe environment.
  • Provided safe drinking water and sanitation facilities to 1200 students by installing Bio-sand water filters and repairing damaged toilets.
  • Distributed various education materials including white boards, sports equipment, stationery supplies (bags, notebooks, water bottles).
  • Hired and trained teachers in order to meet the extremely dire teacher deficit in 3 schools.
  • Provided tailoring training to village women to help empower them and generate income. Supported by renowned U.S. designer Phoebe Dahl, the program will train village women to sew uniforms in the 8 schools supported by us, rather than bringing them from Kathmandu.
